Circular Timber

Circular Timber

To achieve the climate goals of the Green Deal, a comprehensive transformation is necessary. A paradigm shift away from new construction using primary raw materials towards circular buildings, components, and materials is crucial. It is important to scale up the use of secondary building materials and components.

In the first phase of this transdisciplinary research project, criteria and methods necessary for the sustainable and resource-efficient use and reuse of wooden components in line with EU requirements will be analyzed. An overview of legal and technical solutions in timber construction will be developed.

Building on this, the second project phase will present proposals for circular-oriented use for different typologies. Both primarily (first-use) and secondarily (reused) wooden components and building materials will be used together.

This promotes working with wood, establishes versatile reuse and repurposing possibilities, and strengthens the use of wood as a sustainable and future-oriented material.
